Seoul, Korea: Thailand continues to be the number one choice for Koreans seeking an overseas golfing break.
Those are among the findings from a golf tourism survey of 2,360 Korean golf travellers carried out by JTBC Golf Magazine.
A report by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) Korea said the findings reveal that 77% of golf vacations taken by Korean golfers are domestic with 23% travelling overseas.
However, when asked about their aspirations for their next golf vacation this summer, 47% said they want to travel abroad with 53% content to travel within Korea.
A total of 59% of those Korean golfers who did travel overseas spent on average between US$1,000 and US$2,000 with 23% spending between US$2,000 and US$3,000.
Thailand is the preferred overseas golf destination according to 27% of respondents. It is followed by Vietnam (17%), Japan (14%) and China (12%). Other golf destinations in Southeast Asia polled a combined total of 22%.
Meanwhile, 50.3% of golf travellers book their golf vacation through a travel agent or tour operator, which is close to the global average of 52%.
