Singapore: Sentosa Golf Club has hosted the Singapore Golf Association’s (SGA) first Junior Camp.
The award-winning club, host to the Singapore Open and HSBC Women’s Champions, is a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
The camp consisted of a series of qualitative skills tests and a nine-hole stroke play competition over the Serapong Course, to determine the selection of a SGA Junior Team.
Leading the Junior Camp was former national team stalwart
Jerome Ng, now the SGA’s High Performance Manager. Current members of the Elite and Development Squad served as camp mentors.
As well as illustrating a variety of different shots, Elite Squad members
Gregory Foo and
Joshua Shou inspired the juniors with a motivational talk, revealing the life lessons they have learned from their experiences of travelling the world to represent Singapore in international tournaments.
An SGA spokesperson said: “The camp was created to promote the game of golf among talented young Singaporeans, and to select a Junior Squad team through a series of quantitative tests and a nine-hole game.
“By giving the youth of Singapore a chance to interact with the Elite and Development Squad members, hopefully the next generation of golfers will be inspired to take up the mantle in the future.”
