Brookfield, Wisconsin, United States: Thad Bell has been welcomed as an Associate Member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA).
Bell, Design Associate Asia Office with Ernie Els Design, was one of five new Associate Members added to the ranks of the ASGCA during its 71st Annual Meeting.
Last month, Bell was one of the keynote speakers at an Asian Golf Industry Federation-organised Club Management Mini Summit at the Els Performance Golf Academy (EPGA), which is located within the master-planned Ecopark residential community on the outskirts of Hanoi.
There, Bell focused his presentation on the benefits of developing par-three, nine-hole courses in emerging markets, such as Vietnam.
Bell, who received his Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia in 1991, has more than 17 years of experience in the golf course design industry and has been involved with courses in the United States, South Africa, Middle East and China.
He started his golf course architecture career with Jack Nicklaus Design. In 2006, he joined Ernie Els Design, a Full Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
His representative courses include: Anahita Four Seasons Golf Club, Mauritius; The Els Club Teluk Datai, Langkawi, Malaysia; The Els Club Desaru Coast (Coast and Lakes Course), Johor, Malaysia; The Els Club Valley Course, Johor, Malaysia; and The Els Club Desaru Coast, The Ridge, Johor, Malaysia.
Candidates for Associate membership in the ASGCA complete a rigorous, multi-phase application process that includes peer review of four completed courses, discussions with project owners and a personal interview to assess the candidate’s professional capabilities.
Rees Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Alice Dye and Ron Whitten were among those who attended this year’s Annual Meeting where Bell was joined as a new member by Gene Bates, Mike Gogel, Brandon Johnson and Sean Quinn. Their elections increase the number of ASGCA members who practice around the world to nearly 180.
