Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: A new year has heralded new success for Jimmy Chia.
The scratch handicapper lived up to his reputation as pre-tournament favourite by claiming victory in Kota Permai Golf and Country Club’s Champion of Champions tournament.
Relishing the speedy greens, which reached 11 on the Stimpmeter, Chia quickly found his range.
With all facets of his game in good order, Chia signed for a one-over-par 73 at the club that is a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
That was six strokes clear of Willie Lim and seven ahead of Lio Chee Hong in the gross category.
It was a continuation of Chia’s success at Kota Permai which saw him crowned Golfer of the Year for 2016, his prize being awarded by Tang Meng Loon, Senior Group General Manager, Gamuda Land Clubs.
Also in celebratory mood was Abdul Razak Yahya. The 11-handicapper took top honours in the nett section with a score of 69.
A total of 120 members took part in the event which was jointly staged with the Plate Medal.
With a 74, Tajudin Supian was the gross Plate Medal winner while Chang Kok Fai, playing off 24, was the nett winner with a 68.
