Singapore: A trio of international music acts will headline the four-day festival at the 2017 HSBC Women’s Champions.
The 10th anniversary edition of the tournament will take place for the first time on the recently renovated New Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club, a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
Immediately after the final putt has been sunk on March 4, music aficionados and golf fans can look forward to an evening of live entertainment to be led off by up-and-coming local acts.
A US-based acapella band known for its uniquely soulful sound will follow before the main act, a popular Korean actor and singer, takes over the stage to get the crowd swinging.
Following the success a year ago when a festival concept of the best in golf, music, and food was introduced for the first time to the tournament, the international cast of musicians will follow in the footsteps of British pop group Take That who delighted fans with their hit singles following a day of enthralling play on the course by the world’s leading women golfers.
Giles Morgan, Global Head of Sponsorship & Events for HSBC, said: “This tournament is all about entertainment. On the course, HSBC’s Women’s Champions has earned a reputation for high drama – think back to February when our winner Jang Ha-na holed a spectacular eagle on the final hole to seal a memorable win, or Paula Creamer’s 75-foot date with destiny two years ago.
“We want the entertainment off the course to match the action on it which is exactly why we lined up Take That and MasterChef star Monica Galetti for the 2016 tournament. This time around in the afterglow of golf’s return to the Olympics we have the perfect opportunity to grow the game – Rio 2016 opened up new audiences for golf, especially in Asia, and we want to ensure that we are giving this new audience a great show, on and off the course.”
Jean Ng, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board, added: “With the continued integration of sports and entertainment offerings, the HSBC Women’s Champions has become more than a premier golf tournament. It is now a lifestyle event that will appeal to both avid golf fans and casual leisure visitors alike. This not only raises the bar on fan experience, but also enhances Singapore’s position as a sports and entertainment hub.”
Robbie Henchman, Senior Vice President, Head of IMG Asia Pacific, said: “2017 marks a milestone for the HSBC Women’s Champions. Over the past decade, the event has hosted the best women golfers in the world, who have thrilled fans with their skills.
“We revamped the spectator experience at the event last year through a festival concept that offered the best in golf, food and music. The trifecta worked extremely well and opened HSBC Women’s Champions to a wider audience, introducing many to the sport of golf for the first time.”
