Johor Bahru, Malaysia: More than 310 youngsters from 26 countries descended on the southern Malaysian State of Johor for the 2016 Kids Golf World Championship.
It was the fifth year in succession that Malaysia has played host to the event that is included in The R&A’s World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Since its inception in 2012, the number of countries being represented in the event has more than doubled.
While players from Thailand dominated this year’s event, winning eight of the 15 categories, other age group winners came from as far afield as India, the Philippines and Russia.
“The growing number of international golfers participating in our championship and the substantial number of players who have returned annually for the tournament is a testimony to the high levels of competition and international standards of the championship,” said Sukumaran Balakrishnan, Managing Director of tournament organisers Concept Collaboration Sdn Bhd.
The tournament is the international version of US Kids Golf, an annual event held for children aged between five and 18. The top five players in each category qualify to play at the European Championships in Scotland and the top three will be invited to play in Pinehurst Golf Club, North Carolina in 2017.
The tournament is presented by US Kids Golf Foundation and managed by Concept Collaboration Sdn Bhd.
The championship is sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association with the support of Power Champ isotonic drink and host Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort.
