Shenzhen, China: More than 500 golfers lined up at Mission Hills Golf Club for an annual charity golf day which has now raised more than HK$20 million (about US$2.5 million) since it was established in 2008 to support victims of the Sichuan earthquake.
Founded by the late Chairman of Mission Hills Group, Dr David Chu, together with artist Eric Tsang and philanthropist Chan Iu Seng, this year’s charity event was played over four courses at the world’s largest golf club in southern China.
With a host of VIP and celebrity guests in attendance, funds were raised for charities including the Caring for Children Foundation, the HKMSSAC and the Bo Charity Foundation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mission Hills Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr Ken Chu said: “Since we launched this event in 2008 to raise funds for the quake-stricken areas of Sichuan, more than 5,000 golfers have taken part and we have raised more than HK$20 million.
“This has surpassed all expectations and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the players and co-sponsors for their compassion and support.”
