Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Feng Shanshan’s love affair with the TPC Kuala Lumpur and the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia has continued.
Repelling the challenges of Suzann Pettersen and Anna Nordquist, the 27-year-old Chinese wrote her name into the record books as the first two-time winner of the LPGA Tour event.
It was the fifth victory of Feng’s LPGA career and her first since triumphing in 2014 at the TPC Kuala Lumpur, a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“Every time I come back here, it makes me feel like I’m at home. I’m really relaxed and I love everything, love the food, love the people,” said Feng, who finished her third round 64 in the morning and closed with a four-under 67.
“Can I actually join the membership here? I really love this golf course. Can we have like 10 LPGA events here on this course?”
As well as winning here in 2014, Feng was second in 2013 and tied for second last year.
She said: “Normally, I’m a pretty good ball-striker. They have some very tough greens here that we have to be more accurate, and I think that’s good for me. Also, somehow, I read the greens here very well. This week I made a lot of putts.”
The victory also continued a hot streak for Feng that began with a bronze medal at the Olympic Games.
Since her success in Rio, Feng tied for fourth at the Evian Championship in France and at the Reignwood LPGA Classic in Beijing, was runner-up at the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship and tied for third in the KEB Hana Bank Championship in Korea.
