Siem Reap, Cambodia: Angkor Golf Resort will play host to a new qualifying event for the Ladies European Tour (LET).
To be held from October 19-22, it will act as one of four pre-qualifying tournaments for the LET’s Lalla Aicha Tour School, which culminates with the Final Stage in Marrakech, Morocco, in December.
“We are delighted to bring professional golf back to Cambodia,” said Alan Martin, PGA Head Professional at Angkor Golf Resort, a Golf Course Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
“This event has great potential to help showcase Angkor Golf Resort and the golf that is on offer in a fast-growing golf destination. The Q-School will help us with our commitment, through the Angkor Golf Resort Academy, to grow the game of golf in Cambodia.
“It is an exciting new partnership with the LET and hopefully in the near future we can bring a main Tour event to Angkor Golf Resort,” added Martin.
Commenting on the three-year agreement, Ivan Khodabakhsh, the LET’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Lalla Aicha Tour School is part of the LET’s strategy to create a clear development pathway from the amateur to the professional game and we are delighted to partner with Angkor Golf Resort to extend the brand into a new region and providing aspiring talents in Asia easy access to a fantastic venue.”
Aspiring LET professionals will compete over four rounds on the award-winning course, designed by European great Sir Nick Faldo, a six-time Major championship winner.
Angkor Golf Resort is located five minutes from Siem Reap International Airport and 10 minutes from the famous Angkor Wat temple.
Cambodia has a budding golf tourism market and this event will showcase the facilities of Angkor Golf Resort, which was opened in 2008.
The resort hosted the Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic on the men’s Asian Tour in 2012 and received the IAGTO Excellence award in 2015.
