Langkawi, Malaysia: The Els Club Teluk Datai has confirmed its standing as one of Asia’s ‘must-play’ venues after winning top billing in the region at the World Golf Awards in Faro, Portugal.
Designed by four-time Major champion Ernie Els, the course received awards as Asia’s Best Golf Course and Malaysia’s Best Golf Course, while its sister hotel, The Datai Langkawi, was named Malaysia’s Best Golf Hotel.
A year ago, The Els Club Teluk Datai, a Golf Facility Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation [AGIF], was named Best New Golf Course in Asia at the inaugural 2014 World Golf Awards.
To cap off an outstanding result, Ernie Els Design – a Full Business Member of the AGIF – was named Best Golf Course Designer of the Year, while Malaysia was selected as Asia’s Best Golf Destination.
Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin, Group Managing Director and CEO of Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels, said: “We are blessed with one of the world’s most idyllic locations and Ernie Els’s design has certainly garnered us an international reputation.
“We are sure these awards will continue to enhance the appeal of golf in Malaysia and serve as a catalyst for visitors looking for their next new golf experience, thereby growing inbound golf tourism to Malaysia.”
David Townend, Senior Vice President of The Els Club Malaysia, said: “We are humbled to receive the award of Asia’s Best Golf Course, knowing there are many amazing courses in the region. Our dedicated team aspires every day to deliver the course in pristine condition and ensure guests from all corners of the globe receive an experience that exceeds their expectations.”
The Els Club Teluk Datai is an 18-hole, par-72, 6,750-yard course on Langkawi’s north-west coast. The island is just off the north-west coast of peninsula Malaysia, a 50-minute direct flight from Kuala Lumpur and 90 minutes from Singapore.
It is nestled in an ancient rainforest of towering tropical foliage. Backed by soaring limestone peaks of the Mat Chinchang mountain range and running down to the Andaman Sea, the course enjoys one of the most alluring golf settings in Asia.
The Datai Langkawi also enjoys a captivating rainforest setting, teeming with wildlife and overlooking tranquil Datai Bay. The Datai’s 54 rooms, 40 villas, 16 suites and 14 beach villas offer breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.
Visitors to Langkawi can experience a memorable rainforest golf experience with special stay-and-play packages at The Datai Langkawi and The Els Club Teluk Datai from US$470 for one night with one round of golf to US$1,895 for five nights with three rounds of golf for two people.
Hotel guests can unwind with a 120-minute deep tissue massage for two at the award-winning The Datai Spa, as well as food and beverage discounts at the resort’s diverse culinary offerings.
The Els Club Malaysia collection will continue its expansion in 2016 with the opening of two new projects on south-east Malaysia’s Desaru Coast, a short drive or ferry trip from Singapore.
