Singapore: Indian Anirban Lahiri added another feather to his cap by winning the inaugural Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award.
As part of Hilton Worldwide’s new partnership with the Asian Tour, the monthly award aims to recognise outstanding efforts of Asian Tour members both at home and abroad.
The online voting contest on www.asiantour.hiltongolf.com to determine the monthly winner, engages golf fans as they vote for their favourite golfer through the Asian Tour’s media channels, culminating with fans voting for the Asian Tour Hilton Golfer of the Year at the end of 2015.
“We’ve had a legacy of working with sports organisations and our partnership with the Asian Tour is a great fit for our customers and us as a company,” said Mark Liversidge, Vice president, Marketing – Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide.
“The Asian Tour Hilton Golfer of the Month initiative provides us with a fantastic platform to support future stars within the golfing scene and engage with the growing number of golf leisure travellers in this region.”
Lahiri was voted as the winner of the first Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award based on his stellar performance from June to September, with subsequent awards based on monthly achievements as the Asian Tour is now back in full swing.
Ranked 39th in the world, the Indian enjoyed a memorable opening nine months in 2015 which saw him win two events sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Lahiri also finished joint fifth in August’s PGA Championship for India’s best performance in a Major and became the first Indian to earn a spot in the Presidents Cup’s International Team.
“I’m delighted to earn the fans’ votes for the inaugural Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award. It is a wonderful recognition and a fantastic initiative for us to engage more with our fans,” said Lahiri, who is currently leading the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Besides casting their vote for their favourite player on the Asian Tour, fans, who log onto www.asiantour.hiltongolf.com also stand a chance to win a one night stay at any Hilton property of their choice.
Lahiri won the award ahead of Thai duo Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Prayad Marksaeng. The three players were nominated by a selection panel before going into a voting process.
