Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Improving the conditioning of golf courses throughout Malaysia is the aim of a new educational seminar.
The inaugural Golf Course Superintendents Association of Malaysia [GCSAM] and Asian Golf Industry Federation [AGIF] Turfgrass Management Seminar is being organised under the auspices of the Malaysian Golf Association [MGA].
The event will take place at the award-winning Kota Permai Golf and Country Club on September 7-8.
The seminar is open to all golf course managers, course superintendents, club managers, greenskeepers and mechanics who want to learn more about the latest in golf course development.
Jack Cheong, the GCSAM’s President, said: “The GCSAM is committed to continuous education and has been working together with the MGA towards the ultimate objective of improving the condition of golf courses throughout Malaysia.
“The GCSAM is pleased to work together with the AGIF for this seminar and also welcomes the support of the MGA towards another successful event.”
Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We’re excited to be working with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Golf Association on what promises to be an excellent event, featuring top-quality speakers.
“We appreciate also the outstanding support from the management and staff at Kuala Lumpur’s Kota Permai, a Golf Facility Member of the AGIF.

Tang Meng Loon, Group General Manager – Gamuda Land Clubs, welcomed the launching of the seminar.
He said: “Kota Permai has had the privilege of hosting numerous major golfing events over the years, such as the Maybank Malaysian Open, Mercedes Benz Tour, Fortis International and the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters.
“We believe that the Asian Golf Industry Federation’s forthcoming Turfgrass Management Seminar is also an important one.
“It is through top-level gatherings such as this that course superintendents from around the country can enhance their knowledge and become better at what they do.
“I would like to sincerely express my appreciation to the AGIF for the commendable initiative in staging its first turfgrass educational seminar in Malaysia, in collaboration with the Golf Course Superintendents of Malaysia and Malaysian Golf Association.
“This is a huge gathering of golf course superintendents, club managers, greenskeepers and mechanics who will come together under one roof for the two-day educational seminar, followed by an 18-hole game at Kota Permai.
“With the backing of the AGIF, the GCSAM and MGA I am convinced that the education seminar will grow bigger in the years ahead.
“It is our fervent hope that, through top-level gatherings such as this golf course superintendents from around the Asia Pacific region can enhance their knowledge and become better at what they do.
“That will result in superior playing conditions which, in turn, will encourage more players to play more rounds of golf – and will result is increased revenue for the clubs across the region.”
