Thua Thien Hue Province, Vietnam: This weekend’s eighth Faldo Series Vietnam Championship is poised to further cement the reputation of the Laguna Lăng Cô Golf Club as one of Asia’s prime golfing getaways.
Already rated as one of the best new courses in Asia, the Nick Faldo-designed layout, which celebrated its second anniversary in April, has played a pivotal role in the development of Vietnam’s Central Coast region as a major golf and tourism destination.
Such has been the success of the first and largest world-class integrated resort in Vietnam that Sir Nick has been appointed as a Brand Ambassador by the Banyan Tree Group.
In that role, Sir Nick will partner the Group on a series of upcoming events including the inaugural Laguna Golf Classic in November, 2015 and the 11th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, which is scheduled for March, 2017.
Ravi Chandran, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Laguna Lăng Cô, said: “As the master designer of Laguna Lăng Cô Golf Club, we are truly excited to have Sir Nick Faldo as our Brand Ambassador and fortify our partnership established since 2009.
“The premium Laguna brand by the Banyan Tree Group with its growing global presence and strong mission in Corporate Social Responsibility is complemented by Sir Nick’s vision and goals as a renowned golf professional.
“Our focus on sustainability and community efforts remains at the core of our business across the Group today. Embracing like-minded values including the nurturing of aspiring youths, the annual Faldo Series is a premier not-for-profit global amateur programme for young golfers.
“I am confident that together with Sir Nick, we can elevate the travel and golf experience to new heights while strengthening our continual efforts of giving back to the game and community.”
Sir Nick said: “I am looking forward to a prolific partnership. Having collaborated with Laguna Lăng Cô to create its signature 18-hole, par-71 championship course in one of Asia’s most dramatic coastal settings, I am drawn by this unique destination.
“I will be following very closely the results from the Faldo Series Vietnam Championship this weekend and am already looking forward to returning to Laguna Lăng Cô later in the year.”
The leading players from the Faldo Series Vietnam Championship will qualify for the 10th anniversary Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Faldo at Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March.
Results from the Faldo Series Vietnam Championship, the seventh leg of the 2015-16 Faldo Series Asia season, will be counted for the World Amateur Golf Ranking system.
Supported by The R&A and Mission Hills and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the 2015-16 Faldo Series Asia campaign stretches over 11 months and will include a minimum of 21 events in 17 countries including, for the first time, Australia.
