Paris, France: French European Tour professional Romain Wattel has signed with IMG for worldwide management and marketing representation.
Wattel enjoyed an illustrious amateur career, including winning the Eisenhower Trophy as part of the French team, before turning professional and securing his European Tour card with a share of ninth place at the 2010 Qualifying School.
Earlier that year, he became only the fifth amateur to win on the Challenge Tour when he captured the ALLIANZ European Strasbourg-Golf de la Wantzenau as a 19-year-old, finishing three strokes clear of the field.
Following a successful rookie campaign in 2011, he continued to show his potential in 2012 and 2013 by taking 51st and 84th place respectively in The Race to Dubai.
In 2014, he enjoyed his best year to date with eight top-10 finishes, resulting in a career-high 28th place in The Race to Dubai. Wattel led the European Tour in overall scoring last year, finishing the year at 157-under-par.
Wattel said: “I am delighted to be joining IMG. As a Frenchman travelling internationally, IMG’s global reach through its offices around the world will be a real benefit to me.
“I am looking forward to concentrating solely on my golf while industry leader IMG, together with my sister, Marion, look after all my off course interests.”
Wattel’s next European Tour event will be next week’s Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.
IMG is an Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
