Siem Reap, Cambodia: Asian Golf Industry Federation Golf Facility member Angkor Golf Resort continues to be at the forefront of the sport’s development in Cambodia.
Recently named as Cambodia’s premier course, the award-winning Nick Faldo-designed layout will break new ground next year with the addition of a new tournament to its popular schedule of events.
To be staged from April 2-4, the Angkor Four-Ball Championship is Cambodia’s first pairs championship and is open to male, female and mixed pairings.
David Baron, the club’s Director of Golf, said: “The Angkor Amateur Open is now into its seventh year and has regularly been over-subscribed. Therefore, it made sense to add a new event to the calendar.
“We wanted to do something a little different and thought a team format would be a good choice.
“The better ball format is always fun and perhaps a little more relaxed than a standard stroke play format but it’s a format you don’t see too much of in this region.
“Joining as a team enables participants to travel and play tournament golf with an old friend or strategically picked partner. Either way it all adds to the camaraderie of the event.”
Teams will be competing for a range of gross and nett prizes. The pairing with the lowest 36-hole gross score will be crowned champions.
The entry fee of US$285 per person includes three rounds of golf, transportation, player gift pack, prizes, two lunch buffets and a welcome Gala Dinner.
Subsidised stay-and-play packages start from US$405 per person including the entry fee and three nights at the five-star Sokha Angkor Resort with breakfast and transfers included.
Baron said: “Although the event will be played under strict tournament conditions we want to ensure that it’s also fun and sociable. These events give players a chance to not only experience our golf course but also to see what Siem Reap as a destination has to offer. We will ensure that everyone taking part has a memorable time.”
