Hong Kong: Fanling member Doug Williams will be carrying home hopes this week in one of the strongest fields in the history of the Asia Pacific Senior Amateur Championship.
A total of 116 competitors from 20 countries will compete over three rounds at Discovery Bay Golf Club for the historic title, including two teams from Hong Kong.
Boosted by a play-off win in last week’s Hong Kong Seniors Amateur Open at Hong Kong Golf Club, Williams is confident that the Hong Kong teams can challenge for honours when the annual Asia Pacific Golf Confederation event, which was first played in Malaysia in 1986, tees off on the Diamond/Jade course at Discovery Bay.
“We have a bunch of players playing well so I think both Hong Kong teams have a very good chance,” said Williams. “With so many golfers taking part from so many different countries it’s going to be a great week at Discovery Bay.”
Ning Li, President of the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) added: “The HKGA is excited and proud to be hosting the Asia Pacific Senior Amateur this week.
“With the Asia Pacific Ladies Team Championship and the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship also coming to Hong Kong in 2015, this is an exciting time for showcasing golf in our city.”
