Sydney, Australia: With Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy already confirmed to play, the Australian Open has received a further boost with Emirates Airline committing to the title sponsorship of the event for a further three years.
Emirates has been connecting passionate golfers, fans and spectators alike to the Open since joining the championship as title sponsor in 2011. As the tournament continues to grow and attract the world’s best sporting talent, Emirates has extended its partnership through to 2016.
The Emirates Australian Open will be played at The Australian Golf Club from November 27-30 and is part of the 2014 OneAsia schedule.
“Continuing our naming rights sponsorship for another three years allows us to actively demonstrate our commitment to Australia,” said Barry Brown, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East.
“The Open provides us with the perfect platform to connect with our customers while promoting world-class Australian sport on the international stage.”
In Australia, Emirates commitment to golf extends across a number of tournaments, including the Perth International and the PGA Championships on the Gold Coast.
The 2014 tournament is hotly anticipated with golfing fans eager to see Scott and McIlroy return to Sydney for a replay of 2013 where Scott came close to securing a historic triple crown of Australian events before McIlroy birdied the final hole to clinch victory.
Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt said the Emirates commitment was a terrific boost to the championship.
“Emirates has an exceptional commitment to golf around the world and the Emirates Australian Open is a leader in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with Emirates and bringing the world’s best golfers to Sydney for the fans to enjoy.”
The next event on OneAsia is the US$1 million Nanshan China Masters from October 9-12.
