Cleveland, Ohio, United States: Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel has signed with IMG for worldwide management and marketing representation.
Schwartzel, who owns 10 victories worldwide, won the 2011 Masters Tournament with a final-round 66 that included birdies at each of the last four holes. In doing so, he became the third South African to wear the Green Jacket following Gary Player and IMG client Trevor Immelman.
Currently 17th on the Official World Golf Ranking, Schwartzel is twice a member of the International Team at the Presidents Cup. He has enjoyed consistent success across the PGA Tour and European Tour, most recently winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship in 2012 and 2013 in his native South Africa.
“I feel IMG is best positioned to help grow my business both globally and in the United States at this pivotal time in my career,” said Schwartzel. “I look forward to making full use of their global resources and experience.”
IMG’s Guy Kinnings said: “We are absolutely delighted to work with Charl across all aspects of his career, allowing him to place his entire focus on excelling inside the ropes. IMG is uniquely positioned to help maximise Charl’s business interests globally and we look forward to helping such a talented player succeed on and off the golf course.
“From its inception, IMG has a long and proud history of representing South African players who have played global schedules and we are thrilled to have Charl join us as a client.”
Schwartzel enjoyed significant amateur success, earning nearly 20 titles across Africa and worldwide before turning professional at the age of 18. He joined the European Tour in 2002 and earned his first professional victory in a play-off at the 2005 Dunhill Championship. He topped the Order of Merit on South Africa’s Sunshine Tour in three consecutive seasons beginning in 2005 and to date has earned nine European Tour victories in 13 seasons as a member.
On the PGA Tour this season, Schwartzel has already enjoyed two top-10 finishes with a fifth place at the Northern Trust Open and a tie for ninth at the WGC Cadillac Championship.
