London, England: A unique new docu-series telling the remarkable story of one woman’s mission to turnaround a rundown golf club and make it a friendly, accessible and inclusive community venue is now being streamed on Syngenta Golf.
In a golf industry first, the fly-on-the-wall documentary, Changing the Business of Golf, follows former Ladies European Tour professional Fame Tate as she breaks with tradition and aims to transform the course and customer experience at Stanedge Golf Club, Derbyshire.
In the first episode, available to view now, Tate recalls the life-changing decision to acquire the golf course and how she is turning the club into an open, friendly venue at the heart of her local community.
Tate said: “At Stanedge, we are not what is possibly perceived as the ‘norm’ for a golf club. There is no committee of board of directors and we can, therefore, implement change very quickly to meet the needs of the modern world.
“We pride ourselves on providing extraordinary service for all our members and visitors both on and off the course, and in the clubhouse.
“In doing this, we have created a community and a culture, providing an enviable golfing and social experience for all.”
An Executive Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation, Syngenta has been at the forefront of growing the game and promoting women in golf, conducting various research projects into the subjects.
In 2015, a Syngenta report entitled The Opportunity to Grow Golf: Female Participation, offered clubs insights and solutions on how to engage new women golfers.
A Syngenta spokesperson said: “Our market research into female participation has demonstrated there is a genuine interest in golf among women in the United Kingdom, as well as the key European golf markets.
“It represents a significant business opportunity and it was pleasing to see so many club managers in the UK recognising this fact and looking to implement change based on customer wants and needs.”
